Best of 2021

Letter from the Publisher

We are on a roll!

This past year has been challenging for everyone. We are thankful that we are able to recognize creativity and excellence during this unprecedented time. Back on a roll, ShowCase is thrilled that we we now get a chance to highlight the best and brightest in our region. As our nation returns to work and we look back on this past year, it is our honor to rev up the engines and focus on moving forward and celebrating ShowCase Magazine’s Best of 2021 with you, our readers.

The voting process started in March as we turned to you, our loyal reader, and asked you to cast your vote for the Best in 51 categories. Votes poured in for everything from shopping to healthcare, cuisine and giving back.

In this issue, ShowCase Magazine celebrates our local businesses and organizations and spotlights their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic while also celebrating the Best in our region as determined by our readers. Our team then compiled the votes for the Best, and those nominees are honored in this issue.

We invite our readers to seek these organizations out and congratulate them on their success and being voted the Best of 2021. Whether you are reading this in print, online or on social media, we invite you to celebrate these businesses and pay them a compliment or simply send them your patronage. Congratulations to the Best of 2021.

Thank you for reading and celebrating with us!

New Neighbors Guide – Thurston Summer 2021

Welcome to the New Neighbors Guide!

On behalf of the local community, we welcome you to Thurston County. Whether you’re here temporarily or plan to make this a permanent home, we know you’re going to love our region. With our natural beauty, lakes, streams and forested trails, this is the perfect location for outdoor fun. With some of the best coffee in the world and a vibrant food and entertainment scene, Thurston County has something for everyone.

This resource guide offers tips and reminders to get you settled and to get the nuts and bolts of your new home well underway. This resource will also help you get connected to your local community, schools and health care, and help you put down “roots” in your daily life here. From great ideas for your home and events to engage in the community, we have you covered.

Let’s face it, moving to a new city can be costly and time-consuming—but it’s also exciting! This guide is written by a mix of perspectives from native Thurston Countians to people who moved here from out of the area. Our group reminisced about what we wish people had told us when we first moved here.

As we put together this issue, we look forward to providing you with information and education about all the “best things” in Thurston County and we hope to give you a sense of place where you belong and can engage and feel connected. We welcome you, our “new neighbor,” to Thurston County.

Kindest regards,

Robin Lucas, Publisher

Best of 2020

Best of 2020: Recognizing Heroes

America is a nation built and shaped by millions of unsung heroes who all have amazing legacies with stores we could all learn from. The same is true in our local neighborhoods; some of our local organizations and businesses have fascinating stories of hope during the Covid-19 Pandemic. In this special Best of 2020 issue, ShowCase Magazine celebrates the best in our region as voted by you, our reader.

We also shine our light on the nominees from our Best of 2020 readership poll as voted on by you, our readers, this past April. You voted on 50 categories from shopping to food and golf courses to giving back,. You voted for the best and the brightest in our region and we have compiled the nominees here in celebration.

We invite the businesses in this issue to “pause” and celebrate their success at being recognized as the best in each category, even in these challenging times. The daily endeavors that each organization performs are extraordinary. We realize that the level of excellence that we convey in these pages is not easily achieved.

So whether you are reading this online, in print, digitally, or on social media, we invite you to congratulate the organizations and heroes that are spotlighted here and send them your patronage and appreciation. Congratulations to the Best of 2020!

Thank you for reading and celebrating with us!

Thank you,

Taste Washington Announces 2021 Programs

Washington is proud of its culinary environment, and Taste Washington is a large part of this community. Today, Taste Washington is proud to unveil its 2021 programming, a month-long celebration of Washington wine and food.

“While we look forward to a big in-person reunion in 2022, this year has given us the opportunity to make Taste Washington more inclusive and expansive for audiences across the nation,” Senior Vice President & CMO of Visit Seattle Ali Daniels said. “Lowering the barrier to entry has also created a platform to allow wineries and restaurants of any size or geographic location within the state to take part– from small pop-ups and brand-new wineries to longstanding wine and dining institutions, there is a place for all of them.”

Taste Washington 2021 is excited to introduce the brand new Taste Washington To Go, and Taste Washington At Home, along with unique winery and restaurant activations, hotel packages and more.

For Taste Washington To Go, each week, famed chefs will create a special takeout pairing uniquely crafted for a specific theme. Wineries across the state will offer promotions highlighting the week’s featured variety, and local restaurants will offer their own spin on the theme. Subscribe to the Taste Washington weekly e-newsletter to get the scoop on the participating restaurants and the menus— limited quantities will be available from each restaurant, and meals are expected to sell out quickly!

Taste Washington At Home invites everyone into the kitchen to take part in Taste Washington. Each week, Whole Foods Market will share a different recipe and Washington wine pairing that follows the theme. This program was inspired by Taste Washington fans that are unable to travel this year or feel more comfortable preparing their own meals at home.

“In a year that has been hard for so many, we hope this year’s Taste Washington will allow people to enjoy the best of Washington’s food and wine while supporting an industry that has been hurt the hardest,” Daniels said. “Throughout the month of March, treat yourself by booking a night at a hotel, ordering delicious take out and trying a new bottle of Washington wine.”

All programming details and weekly announcements can be found on the Taste Washington website.
