SUMMARY:Tacoma Chamber: West Side Wakeup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informative presentation about Prop 1\, the measure on the November ballot that would provide funding to maintain and improve transit service across our growing community. \nPierce Transit CEO Mike Griffus and Government Affairs Manager Curt Kohlwes will share more about what’s proposed and what Prop 1 could mean for riders and communities across Pierce County — including fare-free buses for seniors\, more buses running more often\, special event service and more. Come learn more about the proposal and get your questions answered. \nMore about the featured speakers \n \nMike Griffus serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Pierce Transit\, where he leads one of the region’s most important public transportation systems—connecting people to jobs\, education\, healthcare\, and opportunity across Pierce County. \nWith a career rooted in public service\, Mike has focused on building organizations that are responsive to community needs while also thinking long-term about sustainability and access. Under his leadership\, Pierce Transit has continued to expand its role in supporting a more connected and resilient region. \nIn 2026\, Mike was recognized by the Milgard School of Business at the University of Washington Tacoma as the Nonprofit/Sustainable Business Leader of the Year—an honor that reflects both his leadership and the collective impact of the teams he serves alongside. \nMike is also a first-generation college student who understands the importance of opportunity\, perseverance\, and showing up when it matters most. \n \nCurt Kohlwes joined Pierce Transit as the agency’s Government Relations Manager in early 2025. Kohlwes serves as the agency’s primary liaison to local\, state\, and federal elected officials and leads the development and advocacy of budget and policy priorities. Prior to this\, Kohlwes served as the Government Relations Director for UW Tacoma\, where he secured key capital investments to support the future development of the downtown Tacoma campus. \nKohlwes brings over a decade of experience in the Washington Legislature\, where he oversaw an extensive portfolio of Legislative accomplishments for the office of Senator Marko Liias. \nKohlwes served on the executive staff to Senate Leadership during Sen. Liias’ tenure as Senate Floor Leader and as Transportation Liaison when Liias was selected as Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee. \nKohlwes brings a deep understanding of the transit community’s needs\, having worked on policies such as “Youth Ride Free” and other multimodal investments in the $17 billion Move Ahead WA transportation package.

SUMMARY:Wagner House Art Series Presents: Lakewold upclose with Brianna Phoenix
DESCRIPTION:] \nLakewold is pleased to present Lakewold Up Close\, a new exhibition by horticulturist and artist Brianna Phoenix on view inside the Wagner House October 11-November 13\, 2026. \nBrianna is a mother\, sister\, nana\, friend\, artist\, and steward of nature. She can often be found immersed in an unexpected project—transforming ordinary materials into extraordinary works that invite us to pause\, look closer\, and experience art from a new perspective. Her work is rooted in curiosity\, reverence\, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. \nFor the past five years\, Brianna has cultivated a meaningful relationship with the land at Lakewold\, allowing its landscapes\, rhythms\, and countless small wonders to inspire her creativity. Through her work\, Brianna honors the life cycles of plants and creatures\, celebrating not only their beauty\, but also their transformation\, impermanence\, and place within the larger ecosystem. \nBrianna sees possibility and beauty in the overlooked\, the discarded\, and the seemingly ordinary. For this exhibition\, she invites you to step closer and see Lakewold from her perspective—to experience the art of noticing the details that are so often passed by. When it comes to materials\, very little is off limits. Each piece has been thoughtfully and ethically harvested\, with care for the land and respect for what has been given. \nThis collection is both an artistic exploration and an offering of gratitude: a closer look at the often-overlooked pieces of nature that quietly tell the story of Lakewold. \nlakewoldgardens.org \n

SUMMARY:Tacoma Little Theatre presents Arsenic & Old Lace
DESCRIPTION:Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves\, only to learn that the two women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor\, they killed him! Between his aunts’ penchant for poisoning wine\, a brother who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt\, and another brother using plastic surgery to hide from the police—not to mention Mortimer’s own hesitancy about marriage—it’ll be a miracle if Mortimer makes it to his wedding. As the chaos grows\, Mortimer struggles to keep his family’s secrets hidden. This classic comedy is murderously funny. \nThursday-Saturday 7:30 PM \nSunday 2:00 PM \ntacomalittletheatre.com/shows/arsenic-and-old-lace/ \n
