Tacoma Opera 2022

December 17, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Dear Tacoma Opera Supporter,
After two years of not being able to present any live operas because of the Covid-19 pandemic, I am thrilled to say that Tacoma Opera is on its way back!
Our Fall one-act operas, were online only, but even so, they were a big hit. And now, we’re getting ready to present the first live productions since our superb and moving production of Tosca in February 2020. In February 2022, two years after Tosca, we will finally be back on the stage, live for you, with a beautiful gem of a one act opera by the great Impressionistic composer Claude Debussy, L’Enfant Prodigue (The Prodigal Son). Based on the timeless biblical story, the music is sublime and the singers, three brand new faces to Tacoma Opera, are spectacular. In addition, they will be joined by six marvelous young ensemble members who will be singing Anton Dvorak’s gorgeous song cycle, appropriately titled the Biblical Songs. Finally, the evening will be rounded out with a balletic pas de deux of Debussy’s beautiful Afternoon of a Faun with solo dancers from the Tacoma City Ballet.
The Ballet will also appear in L’Enfant Prodigue as villagers along with the vocal ensemble. This is going to be an incredibly beautiful and unusual performance and a wonderful way for Tacoma Opera to step back into live performances. But we need your support to help us step back onto the stage and into the lights.
Opera tickets will be available to purchase beginning in January 2022.
Tacoma Opera is truly a homegrown cultural phenomenon. Our reputation in the region is well established and our enthusiastic audiences tell us that they love our quality productions at affordable prices. Additionally, when we are able to regularly perform, we provide stable employment for over 150 local artists, benefiting the South Sound economy. Equally as important, we provide a platform for emerging artists who are on their way to becoming the opera stars of the future. That is a lot to accomplish for a regional company like Tacoma Opera and we are proud to be able to do it.
Yes, Tacoma Opera has made a major positive impact on the cultural life of our region, but in order to continue making a positive impact in the future, we need your help now more than ever. As corporate support for the arts continues to decline and foundation giving is being spread more thinly among so many worthy causes, we rely more and more on the people who love and support the arts.
Therefore, as we look forward to returning to live performances, I am asking you to include Tacoma Opera in your end of year giving. Every donation we receive, big or small is huge for us because the financial support of our patrons is literally what keeps us going and in business. You can donate by visiting us online at www.tacomaopera.com/donate or by simply clicking the button below. And please be sure to check with your place of work to find out if they provide matching funds for donations. I thank you in advance for your generous support as we approach the end of 2021 and wish you, your family and your friends, joy and happiness for the Holiday Season.
