When I went to the beach on Hood Canal to visit my grandma as a child, we would stop by Alderbrook Resort and Spa to enjoy lunch and the beauty of the water. Twenty years later, the destination is still a beautiful place in a natural setting that welcomes you and seems to say, “Let’s play and relax in the forest and on the beach.”
The historic Alderbrook Resort and Spa opened in 1913 and the iconic property is still a gem which is an easy, one-hour drive from Tacoma and 40 minutes from Olympia. The property is 88 acres with 93 well-appointed guest rooms and 15 two-bedroom cottages perfect for families to stay together on the beach.
Mark Phelan, manager at the resort says, “We want this to feel like grandma’s cabin for our guests.” Along those lines, the resort is not stuffy; in fact, they pride themselves on offering laid-back luxury to guests. It is apparent in everything they do. The staff are relaxed and servers smile and greet you with ease. The resort is also home to two cats affectionately named Alder and Brook who are residents of the property. It is perfect for couples and great for family getaways. With miles of beachcombing, water activities, and hiking adventures, there are lots of activities — or you can choose to simply enjoy the art of relaxing.
Guests in need of pampering and relaxing will enjoy the well-appointed Alderbrook Spa . This serene spa offers a luxury oasis complete with calming music filling the air. The relaxation is palpable here. The spa manager says, ”We want guests to have a very personalized experience that is tailored to their needs.”
There are plenty of dining options for foodies at the resort from the on-site restaurant at the Restaurant at Alderbrook with magnificent views of the water and mouthwatering delights. We loved the Grand Marnier Black Tiger Prawns, a rich and creamy appetizer and a staple on the menu. Our favorite main course is the savory King Salmon cooked to perfection and accompanied by fresh, local, seasonal sides. Don’t skip dessert! Be sure to try the locally made Olympic Mountain Ice Creams — the vanilla ice cream tastes like homemade cake batter.
Alderbrook Resort and Spa offers plenty of special events and a timeless vacation for couples and families. It is a unique, laid-back escape that will create long-lasting memories for you and your loved ones. To book your stay visit: Alderbrook Resort & Spa – Washington State Luxury Resort
