“Even if you never plan to pick up a golf club, please come and visit,” says Matt Cohen, General Manager of Chambers Bay and KemperSports. With accessible walking trails, beach access, restaurants, and spectacular South Sound mountain and water views, the Chambers Creek Regional Park is a welcoming place for all ages, including golfers!
Chambers Bay is celebrating its 18th birthday along with the 10th anniversary of hosting the US Open. That event put the golf course on the map. “We continue to deliver a world class experience,” assures Cohen. Golfers of all abilities are encouraged to play. Set your tee from 4,500 to 7,500 yards to challenge yourself at the appropriate level. “It’s a unique course with fun holes and shots, and great views. Even when the course is winning, you will enjoy your time,” adds Cohen, himself a veteran golfer. Affordable instructional packages are available which can include clubs. It’s a walk-only course. Push and pull carts are free to use, or you may want to hire a caddy. Practice on two driving ranges, or chipping and putting on the practice green.
If you are not in the golfing mood, you are invited to experience the surrounding recreational area with walking trails that lead to the beach. The accessible paths do include some elevation. The Soundview Trail offers a saltwater shoreline, an off-leash dog area, and plenty of room for outdoor games. A new and improved snack bar along the way is opening soon with upgraded equipment and more food options. Visitors are welcome to dine at the Chambers Bay Restaurant, too.
In the early 1900’s, the setting was an operating rock and gravel quarry. “More than 70% of the materials were used for the Seattle skyline,” reports Cohen. The area was reclaimed for the golf course and park. “We are so proud and honored to be part of this,” adds Cohen. Along with exceptional golf, Chamber Bay can host weddings and other special occasions. An event tent is up from April through October.
Put a Chambers Bay excursion on your calendar. Plan for a great time and remember to check out the pro shop.
