A trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon makes an idyllic escape any time of year and, with fewer crowds and more fresh ocean breezes, fall is no exception.
Choose one of four boutique lodgings within the Cannon Beach Hotel Collection, like the quaint Cannon Beach Hotel. Established in 1914, the historic venue makes an ideal beginning to any beach sojourn.
As guests take in charming details like cozy fireplaces, clawfoot soaking tubs, and four-poster beds, the midtown location is just a hop, skip, and a jump to local beaches, shops, and restaurants. The on-site MacGregor’s Whiskey Bar offers a superb setting for pairing boards and small plates with an endless list of whiskies and craft cocktails. Visit cannonbeachhotelcollection.com
Start the day off at the delightful Cannon Beach Bakery for coffee and delicious goodies. There’s no shortage of either at the longstanding staple. Sample doughnuts, Danishes, cookies, muffins, and more. Order sandwiches from the deli for later.
Grab a sweater and follow the sounds of the surf. Fall is perfect for peaceful walks and breathtaking views of Haystack Rock. Breathe in the salt air while beachcombing, birdwatching, and responsibly exploring tide pools and natural areas along the pristine coastline.
Several hiking trails are found at nearby Ecola State Park along with always incredible views of Indian and Crescent Beaches.
A bit further south, a memorable outing awaits at Hug Point Recreation Site. During low tide, see a spectacular waterfall that is voluminous this time of year. Carefully discover sea caves and a road worn into nearby rocks by wagon wheels of the past.
Back in town, linger along Hemlock Street for unique art galleries, shops, and boutiques. Look for public art displays throughout the route.
Stop by Bruce’s Candy Kitchen for sweet treats. The family owned and operated shop has been handcrafting salt water taffy, chocolates, and sugary confections for over six decades.
For bigger bites, enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at Bill’s Tavern and Brewhouse for lunch or dinner. Warm up with a hearty bowl of seafood stew or signature fish and chips alongside plenty of craft brew options.
