Serving Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater and Thurston County

Water is a priceless resource, yet many of us rarely think about what happens after it leaves our homes. In the Puget Sound region, the benefits of clean water surround us everyday thanks to the work of LOTT Clean Water Alliance. Serving more than 134,000 sewer customers, LOTT protects public health and the environment by treating wastewater and safely returning it to local waterways, all while recovering valuable resources for the community. Beyond its essential services, LOTT also offers a variety of free, family-friendly activities that help visitors of all ages explore how water is cleaned, reused, and protected.
Check out these destinations which are free to visit:
Wet Science Center
The Water Education and Technology (WET) Science Center is packed with hands-on activities and exhibits. Age-appropriate scavenger hunts open eyes to water use and why we make a difference. Successful hunters are rewarded with cool prizes. LOTT believes in the power of learning and funds field trips for local middle school students.
East Bay Public Plaza
Adjacent to the Hands On Children’s Museum, this plaza offers a playful, water themed educational space. Wander around artwork, a wetland pond, and a seasonal wading stream. Sloshing is encouraged.
Hawks Prairie Ponds and Recharge Basin
This peaceful, park-like setting invites visitors to walk the trails, observe wildlife, and learn about reclaimed water at information kiosks along the way. The wetlands attract bird watchers hoping to spot cedar waxwings and blackbirds. “It’s a glorious little stop,” says Siri Nelson, LOTT’s Education Program Manager. Class A reclaimed water flows through a series of wetland ponds before entering shallow basins where it soaks slowly in the ground, helping replenish groundwater supplies. Dogs on
leashes are welcome.
Deschutes Valley Park and Reclaimed Water Tank
Located in Tumwater, this park features playground equipment, picnic areas, interpretive displays, restrooms, and a scenic overlook atop the reclaimed water tank.
Tour LOTT
Guided tours of the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant are offered throughout the year and group tours can be scheduled in advance. Remember, you make a difference. When wondering what to flush down your toilet, keep in mind the three P’s: pee, poop, and (toilet) paper – nothing else, please!
