Surround yourself with music, family activities, and the excitement of our inclusive community for the 3rd Annual Lula Fest. The free celebration is happening in and outside of the Olympia Film Society – Capitol Theater on Saturday, September 27 from 1-8 pm. With seven different live musical artists/groups, a custom car and bike show, beer garden, various vendors, and a resource fair, everyone is welcome to come.
The event is in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Organizer and founder Miguel Pineda has been working intensely with the City of Olympia and the Latino Leadership Network. “Everyone has a place. There’s something for everyone,” says Pineda, who believes that culture and family are to be appreciated. “It is a celebration to provide unity in our community.”
The dynamic lineup of music includes the following: Los Cumbieros, La Nueva Novedad, Mariachi Ayutia, Duende Libre, Albina Cabrera (KEXP’s El Sonido), DJ Kamabre, and DJ Trademark. Stages are both indoors and outdoors. South Sound YMCA is a supportive partner bringing outdoor games, coloring projects, Jenga sets, and other activities for all ages. Local businesses such as Radiance and Wild Flower Estética will have booths.
At least ten state agencies, including WorkSource, Department of Natural Resources, Office of Veterans Affairs, WA State Independent Investigations, DSHS, and the Department of Parks will be on hand to provide information. The Latino Leadership Network is energized to be part of the celebration. Its annual event, previously held at Millersylvania Park, has moved to be part of Lula Fest to magnify the power of being together at the same time. The Latino Leadership Network speaks to the power of connection to invest, inspire and serve people working in the Washington State government.
“The City is excited to partner with Lula Fest. It adds so much vibrancy to our community and represents many cultures and experiences,” says Olivia Salazar de Breaux, Culture and Belonging Manager for Olympia Parks, Arts & Recreation.
This year rather than having specific food vendors, everyone is encouraged to visit any of the many eateries right downtown. There’s plenty of shopping, too. Bring your friends and family for a day of fun and connections.
