LeMay – America’s Car Museum (ACM) in Tacoma, Washington, is proud to unveil its newest exhibit, Rare & Luxurious – 100 Years of Exceptional Automobiles. This stunning showcase celebrates a century of automotive elegance, performance, and innovation, bringing together some of the world’s most exclusive and iconic vehicles in one unforgettable display.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a passionate enthusiast, or someone who simply appreciates beautiful design, Rare & Luxurious offers a rare opportunity to explore the artistry, engineering, and stories behind the world’s most desirable cars. Spanning from the early 1900s through the modern day, the exhibit captures the evolution of luxury and performance, tracing how style, technology, and culture have shaped the automotive landscape over the past century.
A Celebration of Automotive Excellence
The vehicles featured in Rare & Luxurious represent the pinnacle of craftsmanship and prestige. From early coach-built classics to sleek, modern exotics, each automobile in the collection is a testament to exceptional design and innovation. The exhibit is curated to highlight not only the rarity of these machines but also the luxurious lifestyle and groundbreaking engineering they embody.
Among the highlights are beautifully preserved examples from marques such as Duesenberg, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Bentley. Each vehicle tells a unique story of its time—how it was built, who it was built for, and why it remains significant today.
“The goal of this exhibit is to showcase the very best of automotive luxury and rarity,” said Jake Welk, Marketing Manager at LeMay – America’s Car Museum. “These vehicles were never intended for the everyday driver. They were—and still are—symbols of status, performance, and ambition. Rare & Luxurious invites visitors to step into a world where no detail was spared, and every curve was carefully crafted.”
Vehicles with a Story
One of the cornerstones of the exhibit is its focus on the individual stories behind the automobiles. Visitors can learn about the owners, builders, and moments in history that brought these machines to life. For example, a 1930 Duesenberg Model J on display in the exhibit is one of only around 300 left in the world, and has been recognized at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The exhibit also explores the evolution of what “luxury” has meant over the decades. In the early 20th century, opulence was measured in hand-stitched interiors and custom bodywork. In the post-war era, powerful engines and streamlined designs became status symbols. Today, luxury is often defined by cutting-edge technology and limited production runs—something well represented in the exhibit’s contemporary section, which includes the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and BMW 507, along with newer examples like the Ferrari SP3 and Mercedes AMG GTR.
Designed to Inspire
Rare & Luxurious is not just a static display; it’s an immersive journey through time. The exhibit space is designed to evoke the elegance and atmosphere of different eras, from the Art Deco glamour of the 1930s to the minimalist sophistication of the modern day. Detailed interpretive panels, multimedia elements, and behind-the-scenes insights offer guests a deeper understanding of each vehicle’s significance.
“We want people to walk away inspired—not just by the beauty of these cars, but by the innovation and human stories behind them,” Welk added. “Each of these vehicles represents a dream brought to life. They challenge what we think is possible in engineering, design, and luxury.”
A Must-See for 2025
As one of the museum’s premier exhibits of the year, Rare & Luxurious is expected to draw attention from across the country. The exhibit will be on display throughout 2025, offering visitors ample time to experience its full splendor.
