On Saturday, May 6, 2023, the United Way of Pierce County (UWPC) celebrated the organization’s 100th anniversary, which took place during COVID on May 14, 2021, with the Creating Possibilities Together Gala at the Silver Cloud at Point Ruston Waterfront. The event was a huge success, with 350 community members coming together to support UWPC’s Centennial Campaign efforts.
The gala raised over $540,000, allowing UWPC to continue working toward its bold goal of lifting 15,000 families out of poverty by 2028. Throughout the evening, attendees had the opportunity to reflect on United Way’s 100 years of service and its impact on the community and look forward to the next 100 years. Amanda Westbrooke emceed the event, and Sebrena Chambers, United Way’s Board Chair and Division Director of Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, gave opening remarks.
The gala featured a great lineup of speakers, including Dona Ponepinto, UWPC’s President and CEO, Todd Silver, UWPC’s Centennial Campaign Tri-Chair, Tanisha Jumper, Board Member and Community Impact Cabinet Co-Chair and Chief Communications Officer Tacoma Public Schools, and Jackie Flowers, Board Member and Workplace Campaign Co-Chair and Director of Tacoma Public Utilities. These speakers shared compelling stories of the organization’s impact on the community over the past century. Videos played throughout the evening will be available on United Way of Pierce County’s public YouTube channel and other social media outlets.
The event would not have been possible without the support of generous sponsors such as Davita and U.S. Bank and dedicated volunteers and staff. Attendees enjoyed delicious food and excellent company, making for an unforgettable evening.
UWPC is grateful to everyone who joined the celebration and for their continued support of its work. The organization is committed to creating a brighter future for all and invites the community to keep Living United.
