A fine dining experience awaits you at 1889 Prime Steakhouse in the heart of downtown Olympia. The modern yet intimate atmosphere utilizes large picture windows for views onto Capitol Lake and the Capitol dome. The ambiance pairs well with a thoughtfully-created menu. “We always keep an eye toward customer service,” says Drew MacEwen, Managing Partner.
Naturally, steak highlights the menu. “We are a steakhouse,” confirms MacEwen, and still there are choices for all sorts of diners. Choose from prime cuts of steak with porterhouse, filet mignon, and ribeye, or consider seafood dishes such as king salmon and seafood pasta. Truffle mac and cheese and creamed spinach are favorite, signature side dishes. The menu also reflects seasonal considerations. “We pay close attention to what people order. Lately, we have been featuring prime rib.” The meat is sourced from Double R Ranch in Eastern Washington.
Diners will enjoy the robust wine selections highlighting our regional vineyards. If you prefer, try one of the craft cocktails. A happy hour is offered Tuesday through Saturday from 4-5:30 pm.
“The weekend after Thanksgiving, we decorate for the holidays,” notes MacEwen. 1889 Prime has a private party room that can seat up to 30 guests. The space is decorated with pictures of presidents during visits to our state. The restaurant’s name,1889, remembers that year when Washington gained its statehood. The entire restaurant can be booked for a larger event, accommodating around 130 guests. It’s not too early to make reservations for your special occasion. Regulars even request servers, which can be arranged. Some have worked there since the restaurant’s opening in June 2023.
To be responsive to demands for Monday dinners, 1889 Prime Steakhouse will be adding Mondays beginning in December and continue through March. “We are excited to continue to serve the community. People are still ‘discovering’ the restaurant. They leave happy and come back,” says MacEwen, who is a Washington State senator for the 35th legislative district. “We are here for the love of the community.”
