Finnriver Farm & Cidery, with its home base on a 50-acre organic farm on the Olympic Peninsula, is excited to announce the much-anticipated opening of their Finnriver Tumwater Taproom, bringing their mission-oriented, award-winning cider on tap to the South Puget Sound area and urban Craft District of Tumwater.
“While our roots are rural, the idea of creating an urban community space that is neighborhood oriented and extends our mission to grow connections has been an exciting endeavor. After receiving an invitation to participate in the new Tumwater Craft District building (celebrating regional craft food, beverage and retail), we knew this would be the right opportunity for us to take this leap. ” Crystie Kisler, Finnriver co-founder
The Finnriver Tumwater taproom seeks to extend the rustically elegant and welcoming aesthetic of their Chimacum Cider Garden, as well as serve as a community gathering space that celebrates joyful connection. The new taproom will offer 16 taps with an array of Finnriver’s farm craft ciders on draft and several nonalcoholic options. In addition to cold pours of their diverse line-up of traditionally inspired, seasonal and contemporary cider styles, the taproom will offer a full selection of bottled ciders available for purchase. Finnriver’s ciders are made with a foundation of Pacific Northwest Organic apples and pears, often blended with wild harvested and regionally sourced botanical ingredients, and finished with various fermenting techniques such as blending, oak-aging, and souring among others.
Finnriver sees the Tumwater Taproom as an opportunity to continue nurturing their core mission: To celebrate the beauty and bounty of the Earth, to reconnect people to the land that sustains us, and to grow community. As a certified B-Corp (trying to make business as a force for good), salmon-safe farm, and mostly solar powered cidermaking facility, Finnriver strives to create deep-rooted and fruitful connections to the land they farm and to the living community as a whole. They are bringing these values to their new space and look forward to developing a sense of place and community in Tumwater.
“We’ve always been curious about what it would be like to establish an off-farm Taproom and we love the idea of creating a community space that is more neighborhood oriented. So we were both intrigued and happy to be invited to participate in the newly formed Tumwater Craft district. Additionally our head cidermaker teaches cider making next door at the South Puget Sound Community College’s (SPSCC) Craft Brewing and Distilling program. Andrew’s work at SPSCC gave him a direct connection to this community and to the Craft District project. Between the value aligned dedication to craft and this personal connection, it felt like a great fit and we are excited to continue building relationships and growing community!” ~ Crystie Kisler, Finnriver co-founder
Finnriver’s origins began as a small organic farm and hard cider became a delicious medium to bring people together. They view each glass as an invitation to drink in the earthly elements that nourish us and to celebrate our interdependence within our ecosystems. Cider also sparks great conversations and storytelling, so it is Finnriver’s hope that the Tumwater Taproom is a place where folks gather for connection and to drink in the beauty of the land. Finnriver looks forward to working with local musicians, artists and educators and imagines the space being available for special gatherings and events.
Finnriver was on the forefront of the PNW craft cider renaissance and is excited to be growing new roots in Tumwater. “As an Organic farm we are deeply tied to the seasons, with Fall representing harvest and pressing season. The Fall Equinox feels like the perfect time to celebrate opening this new taproom.” ~ Eric Jorgenson, Finnriver co-founder
