For more than 120 years, Olympia Federal Savings (OlyFed) has built its success by staying true to its community and people. With nine locations and just over $1 billion in assets, OlyFed has earned a reputation for prioritizing people.
Their commitment is evident in every aspect of OlyFed’s operations, from the customers it serves to the colleagues who drive its mission, and the neighbors it supports throughout the South Puget Sound region.
Olympia Federal Savings has donated more than $2 million to local causes over the last five years and the bank’s 115 employees contribute more than 1,500 volunteer hours each year. Many of those employees hold leadership positions on over 40 nonprofit boards.
Ryan Betz, EVP and chief strategy and marketing officer, emphasizes that OlyFed’s culture of service is more than numbers. He recounts stories of employees going above and beyond, such as a branch manager teaching a new employee how to drive after work, and another employee learning sign language to better serve a hearing-impaired customer. “It’s just who we are,” Betz says. “People here look for ways to help. It’s not something we ask them to do. It’s what they want to do.”
OlyFed isn’t just a great financial institution for its customers. It’s also a great place to work. Every employee participates in a profit-sharing program and receives full health coverage. Believing that shared success is more valuable than short-term gains, OlyFed reflects those values throughout their organization. The bank’s stability is
evident: In their 120 years, OlyFed has had just eight presidents, demonstrating its consistency and dedication to its people.
Transparency is the backbone of OlyFed’s culture. “We want every employee to have 100% transparency and understand what we’re doing and how decisions are made,” Betz says. “That’s helped build trust across the bank and confidence that leadership makes decisions in the best interest of customers and employees.”
OlyFed prides themselves on being accountable to their customers and not corporate shareholders. Their vision is to be financial partners that build long-term, lasting relationships that celebrate diversity and use their resources to help communities succeed.
