Following up on record attendance last year, the popular Art in the Woods studio tour will return to the North Kitsap area November 10-12. Art In The Woods is a unique, self-guided 20+ studio tour where visitors are invited into working art studios to meet the artists, see new work, view demonstrations, and, of course, purchase treasures.
Spokesperson for the event, Leigh Knowles, says this event is different than other studio-style tours. “In this tour, the studio artists running the tours often pull out equipment to show the process of making their art.” For so many, the artistic processes are not that well known.
It is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists and talk to them in person. “Honestly, I often find myself hoarse after the first day because I am interacting with so many people. It is such a joy,” said Knowles. A printmaker with her own studio on the tour, Knowles said that there are already more than 60 artists in 23 studios that are opening their doors in 2023. Most studios will feature a group of fine artists from many mediums including paint, glass, sculpture, jewelry, fabrics, weaving, encaustic, collages, and more.
Started in 2005 with nine studios and 20 artists, Art in The Woods has steadily grown and now includes five zones of studios featuring artists that all live and work in the Kitsap Peninsula. The zones allow people to organize their stops, with many coming from all around the Northwest to participate using all three days to maximize their visits. Local B&B’s highlight the weekend because they know groups like to come to make a weekend of it.
“What do people treasure? If you have one thing that is a thing of beauty, that makes you happy . . . if it brings you joy, then it is right. If made by a living, breathing soul, all the better.”
Art In The Woods is a Cultural Arts Foundation NW sponsored event.
