It won’t take long before everybody knows your name when you stop into the newly opened Coffee Pub NW Bar & Grill near the Olympia airport. It is a public house, hence the pub. It means you can get an alcoholic beverage, but it’s a family friendly atmosphere where everyone can gather for a good time. Of course, there’s plenty of food, too.
Owners Dawn and Craig Richards along with James Mickelson, Dawn’s brother, have life-long roots in the area and make it a point to meet all their guests. Neighbors to stop by and tend to join their friends at the same table.
Coffee Pub NW brings together a unique combination of elements under one roof. There are beers on tap (bottles, too) and customers can have a glass of wine or order a cocktail from the full bar. Test your luck at pull-tabs. The barista will make your favorite coffee drink from the award-winning Italian roasts from Caffé D’arte. In a hurry? Go through the drive-up window.
The in-house baker creates her own scones, muffins, bite-sized cheesecakes and cupcakes, to name a few. When your roll through in the morning for your coffee, you might want to pick up a breakfast burrito or sandwich.
Craig puts his meat cooking talents to use with the smoker that is right in the kitchen. The dining menu highlights pork, chicken and beef from the smoker. The pork belly tacos are already getting serious accolades. The corn tortillas are topped with smoked pork belly, Craig’s original Cascade slaw, pickled red onions, cowboy candy (candied jalapenos), cotija cheese, cilantro and chipotle crème sauce. The smash burger is another favorite served with a bundle of condiments on a Brioche bun. Tater tots are on the menu, too. Coffee Pub NW also has fun with specials like “Not your mom’s fried bologna sandwich.”
Craig is a recently retired firefighter. Dawn is finishing her many years working with a local chiropractor, and James been the restaurant business most of his life. “I wanted my hand on my own ship,” says James. The trio is dedicated to maintaining a welcoming establishment. The family-owned business invites you to come in, relax and have some food. Dine in or take out.
