You’ll find the Gliding Eagle Market and the Eagle’s Nest espresso stand as you head towards The Point Casino & Hotel, just 10 minutes from the Kingston Ferry. People still remember ‘The Smoke Shop,’ which is now a modern, well-stocked convenience store and gas station. The espresso stand has doubled in size and celebrates its grand opening on September 25.
As expected, visitors can purchase gas, including diesel, cigarettes and other tobacco products, but there’s much more. The full-service deli offers breakfast (until 11 a.m.) with eggs, bacon, sausage or a burrito. The rest of the menu includes burgers your way, a variety of sandwiches, such as a patty melt or classic club. Add fries or onion rings.
The newly expanded Eagle’s Nest Espresso has croissant sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, muffins and sandwiches not offered inside the Gliding Eagle. The expresso stand is perfect for the drive-thru experience.
Soft drinks, milk, spirits, and beer are ready to grab and go. The 2-For-the-Road program changes monthly and gets you a drink, candy or jerky for now and one for later. The household aisle has health and beauty items and even a few automotive needs. “We have the best candy aisle,” says Kelly Bauch, C-Store Operations Manager. The market offers propane from 6 am to 8 pm. It has an RV dump, air and water, and an ATM.
Take time to look at the native merchandise in the three glass cases. Beaded jewelry, rattles, lanyards, and other crafts are made by tribe members, and all funds go directly to the artist.
“Many of our customers have been coming for years. It feels like family,” says Bauch. Customers with disabilities and those that need extra support will find cashiers helpful to pump their gas or load up a basket of groceries. “It is as staffing allows,” adds Bauch.
The mission of the Gliding Eagle Market is to serve the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and the local communities. Owned by the Tribe, the business is managed by the Noo-Kayet Development Corporation, which support the Tribe with tax revenue, employment opportunities, and profits from its thoughtful operations. All are welcome to shop, refuel and apply for jobs.
