Fill your eye-catching pink Crumbl boxes with memorable cookies in the new Lacey Hawks Prairie location. Mixers twirl 20 hours a day while ovens bake ever changing varieties served warm upon serving. A cadre of workers are measuring, scooping, icing, and pulling trays of pleasingly large cookies. It smells good, too.
“I spent two years looking for a place,” says Doug Clark, franchise owner. The Lacey location has handy freeway access and a drive-thru window (the first in Washington). You can order ahead for curbside delivery, or you can go inside and see the day’s choices carefully set out to entice you. Those within 10 miles can opt for delivery to your front door. “We’ll bring it to you,” says Clark with a smile.
“It’s a unique concept with a different menu each week,” notes Clark. Crumbl Cookie creates mouth-watering videos about the new offerings. Sunday evenings are for the week’s reveal. “Mondays are always busy,” notes Clark, as people want to get their lips on the new flavors. Then there’s the end of week rush as people realize they can’t know when or even if their new favorite cookie will return. The large test kitchens in Utah are busy every day, still coming up with totally new recipes. Crumbl recently celebrated its fifth-year anniversary, and with new cookies each week, that’s a lot of varieties.
The Crumbl experience takes your cookie nostalgia to a new level. “Everything is made on site,” says Clark. “Some batches take as long as four hours,” says Clark. One recipe calls for chilling it twice, frosting, and adding themed toppings. Your order is put together in front of your eyes and then the box is set before you as the lid is lifted. You inhale the magnificence and make sure you got what you wanted. Handle the box with care – it’s heavy.
If you’re lucky, you’ll meet Clark. He’s been an international motivational speaker for years, a pilot and was half of the team of Spike TV’s Flip Men. Covid changed the trajectory of his career. The Lacey Crumbl is his fourth store that has opened, the others are in Puyallup, Bonnie Lake and Tacoma Central. “This is a fun business. And they’re the world’s best cookies,” declares Clark. Crumble offers its own ice cream, too. “We’ll be ready for you!” promises Clark.
