The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe is proud to continue a history of excellence with the purchase of Minder Meats in Bremerton. The meat distribution and retail business has been serving a long list of restaurants, businesses and families from Tacoma to Port Angeles since 1943.
“It’s truly a win-win situation,” says Eric Croft, Interim CEO of Noo-Kayet Investments, which works hand in hand with the Tribe to advance sovereignty and improve the well-being of Tribal members, now and for future generations. Noo-Kayet Investments manages operations for all of the Tribe’s economic entities, including Minder Meats. “It is a good fit for us,” he adds. Customers will receive the same high-quality meats they have come to expect. This acquisition adds economic diversity to the Tribe’s investments and creates a steady and modernized place to sell fish caught by the Port Gamble S’Klallam members.
“Minder Meats helps us support treaty rights and the livelihoods of our Tribal members. At the same time, we are proud to be able the work of such a storied and well-respected Kitsap community business,” said Chairwoman Amber Caldera, Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe.

The purchase of Minder Meats began with a lengthy search by Noo-Kayet Investments for the right business and location on behalf of the Tribe. At the same time, Minder Meats, the four generation, family-owned business, was looking for the right buyer. The Minder family appreciated the Tribe’s commitment to tradition, respect for others, and for the earth. The business maintained long-term employees, and the change of ownership looks to add several more people to the staff. The Minder family business was about meat, but there was a focus on building long-term relationships that are based on kindness, respect and trust. The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe believes in continuing this legacy.
Minder Meats is one of just two USDA-approved meat processors in Western Washington. The beef is grown nearby without hormones or pesticides. Plans are to continue with locally-sourced beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. Noo-Kayet Investments is looking for farms even closer to Bremerton.
Renovations and upgrades are well underway, though the store has remained open. Currently, seafood is available on Saturdays. The expanded improvements include fish processing and a fish market that will highlight tribal fishing such as Dungeness crab, salmon and halibut. Other sourced fish will also be sold. In the future, look for oysters and clams.
As you drive by, you’ll notice the exterior’s new signage and paint. Inside you will feel the ‘old school’ meat shop vibe complete with checkerboard flooring and nostalgic art. See what’s new at Minder Meats.
