Since 1937, Capital Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric has been caring for customers in the South Sound. For three generations, the family-owned business has remained customer-focused and community driven. Today the business is owned and operated by the Schmidtke brothers, Bill, Chuck and Dean.
The company was formed by their grandfather, Bill Schmidtke, who started with sheet metal. In 1980, ownership transferred to his son Larry and wife Dianne, who modernized and expanded services. Now their eldest son Dean is the general manager. “We grew up in the business and found our footing along the way. We swept floors and washed and waxed trucks,” remembers Dean. All three sons graduated from local high schools. Dean attended St. Martin’s University and Bill went to the University of Puget Sound. Eventually all three brothers joined the family business on a full-time basis. They leverage their strengths and skills and strive to bring the best to their community.
The company has long been known for heating, cooling and sheet metal services. More recently, full-service residential and commercial plumbing and electrical have been added. “Our customers were asking for a one-stop shopping experience,” says Dean.
Capital Heating & Cooling is an ardent investor in the well-being of our community. “We partner with some incredible local arts, civic, and service organizations that serve people in the South Sound through music, theater, and the visual arts and that provide people with food, shelter and community enrichment programs.”
Support goes to many beloved organizations including the following: All Kids Win, Ballet Northwest, Harlequin Productions, Oly Arts, Lacey Spring Fun Fair, Olympia Symphony Orchestra, Rely for Life, SOGO (Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia), Thurston County Food Bank, Olympia Harbor Days, Olympia Union Gospel Mission, and The Washington Center for the Performing Arts.
“We have been treated well by the community. We want to help customers with safe and comfortable homes, make this a good community and a better place to live,” adds Dean.
